A busy few weeks!

It’s been a hectic few weeks recently and we’ve been really busy!

We’ve been starting to use our e-mails and after a few technical issues we are beginning to feel more confident in our skills in using our e-mails!

We have also had some visitors to the school!  Last week we had the opportunity to listen to some Norwegian musicians.  They played different types of music for us including some folk music from Norway, it was quite similar to some of our local music.

Recently we’ve also been practicing for our Christmas concert and the St Lucy Tree Lighting.  It’s been lots of fun but hard work trying to work together and learn all the words.

Children In Need

We had a fabulous Friday filled with fun activities for Children In Need.  The theme was Heroes or Spots and some of P4/5 chose to dress up to help raise money.  Here they are!

We learnt all about Children In Need and what happens to the money that we raise.  Later on we got to see Pudsey as he came to visit the school!  We all joined in with a conga line!

A busy day!

What a busy day!

We had our first session of Tag Rugby this morning with Tom… it was great fun and we very quickly remembered some of the skills from last year.

This afternoon we got to do some Halloween activities for Golden Time.  Some of the boys and girls had never ‘bobbed’ for apples so we made sure the whole class has now!

A Partner School!

We are very excited in P4/5 as today we received our first letters from our new pen pals!

We have linked up with a school in Galashiels and will be exchanging pen pal letters and e-mails during this year.  Hopefully we’ll make some very good friends from the experience and learn lots about our new friends and where they are from!

Here is the link to their school.  We are linked with the P3/4 class and their teacher is called Mrs Murray.

Healthy Eating Party Fun

Well it’s the end of term 1 already!

To celebrate the healthy choices we had made this term we hosted a party and invited the class who had won the healthy eating competition across the school to join us.    So congratulations to P2/3 who joined us on Friday afternoon.

We have learnt lots about healthy foods and we made healthy bakes, frozen yoghurt, fruit kebabs and vegetable kebabs to share with all the boys and girls.  We also made some smoothies for after all the running around and party games!

Term 1 is almost over already!

It’s hard to believe that we’re at the end of term one already!  It’s been a busy time full of lots of exciting and fun learning…

Here’s a few examples of what we’ve been up to.

During the Science Festival we had a visit from Jenny.  She taught us how to make paper lanterns.  We created our own using our imaginations to create some amazing designs, Jenny explained how they worked and invited us all to join her in more fun science events throughout the festival.

Our topic this term has been Farming and Technology and we visited the Orkney Museum and had a tour by Tom.  He told us lots of interesting information about farming and the kind of life we might have had if we’d lived a long time ago in a farming village.  It did not sound like fun!

We have also created models of the earliest farm machinery.  Some of the boys and girls who have family who are farmers were very glad that their farm machines have changed a lot over the years!

We had to work as a team to make our models.  Sometimes it was hard as we had to make compromises but it was worth it!

We’ve been working really hard to be the healthiest class this term.  We’ve run a competition across the school to see which class would have the most healthy snacks for morning playtime.  It’s been interesting at times because sometimes what we thought was healthy actually has lots of sugar!
